Richmond, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team scored 18 consecutive points in a 10-minute stretch across the first and second halves to pick up a commanding 73-59 win at Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday.

Franklin (12-10, 10-6 HCAC) used an 11-0 run over the first five minutes of the second half to build a 17-point lead, 45-28.

Sophomore Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led the early second-half surge with three consecutive three-point field goals. She scored a career-high 23 points off the bench and made seven three pointers in the contest.

The two teams exchanged leads for most of the first half. Earlham (8-15, 5-11 HCAC) scored eight straight points to take a 28-27 lead after a layup by Hannah Franklin with 4:08 left in the period.

The Grizzlies however closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 34-28 halftime lead. Sophomore Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) connected on two jumpers and junior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli)  made a layup during the late run.

The team took a 55-35 lead at the 8:18 mark following another three pointer from Comer. The Grizzlies had a game-high 24-point lead, 61-37, two minutes later after a layup by DeSutter.

The visitors had four players reach double figures, led by Comer's 23 points. Senior Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) added 13 points and seven rebounds. DeSutter and Brewer each chipped in 10 points.

The Grizzlies shot 43.8 percent from the floor and forced 26 turnovers in the game.

Saturday ended a three-game HCAC road swing and was the last regular-season road contest.

Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology during the program's Breast Cancer Awareness Game from the Spurlock Center.
