DeSutter's 22 Points Spark Women's Basketball Over Earlham

Box Score

Richmond, Ind. - Junior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Franklin College women's basketball team to a 66-55 road victory over Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday.

Franklin (6-1, 3-0 HCAC) extended its winning streak to six games.

DeSutter connected on four three-point field goals and made eight baskets in the victory.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) added 11 points and three three-point field goals.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 13-0 lead and held a 19-15 advantage after the first quarter. A three pointer by Comer gave the visitors a 24-17 lead with 6:07 left in the first half. Comer later added another three-point field goal for a 27-20 lead at the 4:19 mark. Franklin led 34-29 at the break behind 12 points from DeSutter.

Earlham scored six of the first eight points of the third quarter to cut Franklin's lead to one point, 36-35, with 7:17 remaining. A three pointer from DeSutter extended the visitor's lead to 42-38 with 3:36 left. The Grizzlies took a 50-45 lead at the end of the third quarter after a three-point field goal from freshman Maddie O'Day (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield).

Earlham's Lexi McFarland drained a three pointer to cut the lead to 51-48 at the 6:11 mark of the fourth quarter. However, Franklin scored the next six points to help secure the victory. Back-to-back layups by junior Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) and a layup by junior Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) provided the scoring during the run.

McFarland connected on another three-point field goal to bring Earlham within four points, 57-53, with 3:37 left. That was as close as the Quakers would get as Franklin closed the game on an 8-2 run.

Alfrey scored a career-high nine points and added six rebounds.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, December 19, at 2 p.m. when it travels to Elmhurst College. Live video and statistics of the game will be available.
