Box Score Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team kept its hopes alive for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) postseason berth with a 2-1 home victory over Anderson University on Saturday evening at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies (6-8-2, 3-3-1 HCAC) moved into fifth place in the conference and is three points from fourth-place Earlham College. The top four team qualify for the HCAC tournament.
Franklin scored twice in the first half behind goals from senior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and sophomore Cole Reichard (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville).
Fundenberger gave the hosts the lead in the 22nd minute with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box after receiving a pass from sophomore Austin Storm (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove). The goal tied Fundenberger for the career school record with his 22nd tally.
The Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead on Reichard's first goal of the season in the 34th minute.
The team maintained the two-goal margin, until an own goal in the 77th minute cut the deficit to 2-1.
Franklin held an 11-6 shot advantage, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Four players recorded two shots to help distribute the offensive attack.
Senior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington) made two saves in picking up the victory. He made one save during each 45-minute period.
Franklin returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Manchester University from Faught Stadium. Live video and statistics of the match will be available.
