Big Plays Highlight Football Homecoming Win over MSJ

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College football team scored four touchdowns each covering 46 or more yards in length in a 52-13 win over Mount St. Joseph University on Homecoming on Saturday at Faught Stadium in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.

Franklin (5-2, 5-0 HCAC) used a 31-point second quarter to break the game open.

Sophomore Chase Burton (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns. He added a rushing touchdown in the victory.

The Grizzlies gained 589 yards of offense, including 400 passing yards. The team rushed for 189 yards, marking the fifth straight game of gaining 150 or more yards in the game.

Burton hooked up with sophomore Lee Wroblewski (Salem, Ind./Paoli) for a 70-yard touchdown pass with 10:35 remaining in the first quarter.

Franklin took a 14-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter with a 48-yard pass to senior Mason Deal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). Deal had five receptions for 81 yards in the contest.

Later, Burton threw his third touchdown pass of the game on a 46-yard strike to senior Kendal Butler (Toledo, Ill./Cumberland) at the 12:36 mark of the second quarter. Butler led the receivers with seven catches for 103 yards and the one touchdown.

Sophomore Stephen Colligan (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger) connected on a 21-yard field goal to extend the lead to 24-0 with 9:22 left in the first half.

Junior Kole Stogner (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) rushed 56 yards for a score to give the hosts a 31-0 advantage.

Burton capped the team's first-half scoring on a two-yard touchdown rush. Franklin led 38-7 at the halftime break.

In the second half, the Grizzlies added rushing touchdowns by junior Ty'Ronte Files (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard) and sophomore Jordan Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial). Files gained a game-high 65 yards on the ground.

Defensively, senior Nate Bryan (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam) registered a game-high eight tackles. Senior Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) made seven tackles, while senior Lucas Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) made six tackles.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. when it travels to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. The contest features the last wo undefeated team in HCAC play. Live video and statistics of the game will be available.
