Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored twice in the final 12 minutes to rally past Bluffton University 3-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday evening at Faught Stadium.
With the victory, the Grizzlies (12-1, 5-0 HCAC) tied a single-season school record for victories and moved into sole possession of first place in the HCAC.
Trailing 2-1, sophomore Haley Lowe (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) found the back of the net in the 79th minute. Her fifth goal of the season tied the match.
Three minutes later, sophomore Clare Lenart (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) finished a shot after receiving a pass from freshman Maddie Fleet (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) to give the hosts the 3-2 advantage.
Franklin took an early lead on a goal by Fleet in the 11th minute. The goal was her HCAC-leading 17th tally of the season.
Bluffton (6-8, 2-3 HCAC) squared the match when Ashley Keller successfully converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute.
The Beavers took a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute on Keller's second goal of the match.
Franklin tallied 16 shots, including 10 in the second half. Twelve of the team's 16 shots were on goal. Fleet and Lenart each registered five shots in the contest. Sophomore Jillian Lawrence (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) tallied three shots. Junior Audra Lane (Washington, Ind./Washington) had two shots in the victory.
Junior goalkeeper Kelsie Williams (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) made three saves in picking up her ninth victory of the season.
