Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team lost 3-2 at regionally ranked Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action after allowing the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
Franklin (5-7-1, 2-2 HCAC) fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to square the match by halftime. Rose-Hulman (8-2-3, 3-0-1 HCAC) scored in the first 11 minutes of the contest. Austin Webb and Nick Kowalkowski provided the early tallies.
The visitors cut into the deficit on an own goal in the 24th minute when a ball was deflected by a Rose-Hulman defender.
Later, the Grizzlies tied the match at 2-2 in the 38th minute following a corner kick from senior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central). Freshman Matthew Powell (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) was on the receiving end of Fundenberger's corner kick for his first goal of the season.
The match remained deadlocked at 2-2 until Ben Lyon found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
Rose-Hulman is ranked No. 10 in this week's Great Lakes Region poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and is the two-time defending HCAC tournament champions.
