Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team remained undefeated in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 4-1 road victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday.
The Grizzlies (11-1, 4-0 HCAC) extended their winning streak to eight matches with the victory.
Franklin scored three times in the first half and added another early in the second half to hold a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore Haley Lowe (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) found the back of the net in the fourth minute after a scramble in front of the goal. The goal was her fourth tally this fall. Freshman Olivia Fisher (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) set up Lowe for the goal during the scramble early in the match.
The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute when sophomore Jasmine Hunt (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) scored her first goal of the season after receiving a pass from freshman Maddie Fleet (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian).
Later, junior Audra Lane (Washington, Ind./Washington) scored for the second consecutive match following a pass by freshman Emma Myers (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) in the 38th minute. The goal gave the Grizzlies a 3-0 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, Fleet scored her school-record 16th goal of the season in the 47th minute to give Franklin a 4-0 advantage. Fleet has scored a goal in 10 of the team's 12 matches this season. Her 16 goals and 36 points both lead the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman (5-8, 1-3 HCAC) got on the scoreboard when Hayley Gilliam scored in the 72nd minute. It was the first goal that Franklin has surrendered in four league matches.
Franklin had a 15-10 shot edge in the match, including a 7-2 advantage in the first half. Sophomore Clare Lenart (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) and Fleet each recorded three shots in the victory. Hunt and Lane each added two shots in the match. Seven of the team's 15 matches were on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Kelsie Williams (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) made two saves during the first 58 minutes of the match. She was replaced by sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli), who recorded three saves to secure the victory.
Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 17, at 6 p.m. when it hosts Bluffton University during the college's Homecoming. Live video and statistics of the match will be available.
