Box Score Anderson, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team recorded four double-figure scorers in picking up a 71-63 road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over Anderson University on Saturday.
The Grizzlies improve to 11-7 on the season and stand in a second-place tie in the HCAC with a 9-3 record.
Sophomore Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) led the balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Senior Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) added 12 points off the bench. Senior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and junior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) each chipped in 10 points.
Franklin's reserves scored 17 points in the first half and helped the visitors hold a 27-26 lead into halftime. The Grizzlies took a 13-10 lead midway through the period on the layup by Dall. A three-point field goal from DeSutter extended the lead to six points, 20-14, with 4:31 left in the first half.
Anderson battled back and took a 26-25 lead following a pair of free throws by Courtney Skinner with 19 seconds left. Franklin freshman Madi Kolthoff (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) converted a layup with eight seconds remaining to give the Grizzlies the halftime lead.
The Ravens opened the second on a 16-9 run to take a 40-35 lead after a layup from Jaclyn Liming at the 14:45 mark. The Grizzlies answered with five consecutive points to tie the game. A three-point field goal by sophomore Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and two free throws by Dall squared the contest with 13:36 left.
Later, a layup by senior Brittany Elliott (Brownsburg, Ind./Waldron) gave Franklin a 51-45 lead with 6:18 remaining. Anderson cut the deficit to 55-54 after a three pointer by Skinner with 4:16 left. The Grizzlies got a three-point play by Brewer on the ensuing possession to push the lead to 58-54.
Anderson was able to tie the game at 58-58 with three minutes left. However, Franklin regained the lead on a layup from sophomore Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) at the 2:29 mark. Thompson gave the visitors a 62-58 advantage with two minutes left.
The visitors took a six-point lead, 66-60, following a layup by Fisher with one minute left. The Grizzlies sealed the victory with five free throws in the final 34 seconds.
Anderson's Shelby Shaffer scored a game-high 17 points. Cori Conner added 14 points and Skinner scored 13 points.
