Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball team shot 56.9 percent from the floor in scoring a season-high point total in Saturday's 95-82 win over Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play from the Spurlock Center.
Franklin (2-9, 1-3 HCAC) had four double-figure scorers, led by a career-high 29 points from junior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South). The guard also added 10 assists in the victory.
Sophomore guards Robbie Prather (Franklin, Ind./Roncalli) and Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) each added 19 points. Mann grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the contest. Sophomore forward Matt Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rushville) chipped in 10 points off the bench.
The Grizzlies raced out to a 17-6 lead following a three-point play by Prather at the 12:44 mark. The lead grew to 16 points, 28-12, after a basket by sophomore John Beineke (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) with 10:42 left in the first half.
Franklin took a 40-22 lead with 5:46 remaining in the period after a three-point field goal by Prather. Earlham used a quick 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 42-32 at the 3:44 mark. The Grizzlies led 49-40 at halftime after shooting 59.4 percent from the floor.
In the second half, Mann connected on a three pointer to extend the lead to double digits, 59-47, with 14:39 remaining. Consecutive three-point field goals by Mann and Washington gave the hosts a 65-49 advantage with 12:28 left in the game.
Earlham trimmed the lead to nine points, 74-65, after a layup from Joe Adams at the 8:18 mark. However, that was as close as the Quakers would get down the stretch. A layup by Washington gave Franklin an 82-68 lead with 5:46 left.
Sophomore Cody Federmann (Versailles, Ind./South Ripley) scored four points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Grizzlies made a season-high 11 three pointers in the victory.
