Box Score 2 Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a pair of victories over Trinity International University and Kenyon College on Sunday at the Earlham Invitational. The Grizzlies won all four matches during the two-day event.
Junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the team's offensive attack in the five-set triumph over Trinity International with 14 kills. She had just three attack errors and a .244 hitting percentage for the match.
Freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) recorded a career-best 12 kills. Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) added six kills and junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) had five kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped distribute the offense with a season-high 39 assists. She also contributed 16 digs defensively in the victory.
Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) had a team-high 19 digs. She was one of six Franklin players to record 10 or more digs in the match. Young had 13 digs, while juniors Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) and Hope Steel (New Palestine, Ind./Lutheran) each had 12 digs.
Against Kenyon, Harvey amassed 11 kills in the straight-set victory. Settle added eight kills and Finke chipped in seven kills for the Grizzlies. The team posted a .238 hitting percentage during the match.
Bazier tallied 31 assists. She had 30 or more assists in all four weekend matches.
Steel led the Grizzlies with 10 digs, while Wieneke added nine digs.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. when it travels to Wilmington College (Ohio).
