Box Score 2 North Manchester, Ind. - Franklin College junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) was named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Challenge All-Tournament team as the Grizzlies split four matches in the season-opening tournament at Manchester University.
The Grizzlies lost in three sets to Trine University (25-19, 25-10, 25-22) and Kalamazoo College (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) on Saturday. The team swept a pair of matches on Friday and tied for the top mark among HCAC schools with two wins during the two-day event.
Wieneke had 16 digs against Trine and added 10 digs against Kalamazoo to earn all-tournament honors.
Junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) had a team-high eight kills against Kalamazoo. Classmate Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) chipped in seven kills to lead the offensive attack.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 26 assists against Kalamazoo.
Against Trine, freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) led the team with seven kills. Bazier had 17 assists and recorded 12 digs defensively.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 6 when it travels to the Earlham College Tournament in Richmond, Indiana. The team faces Wilmington College (Ohio) at 2 p.m. before battling the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 6 p.m.
