Box Score Defiance, Ohio - The Franklin College volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to Defiance College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament semifinals on Saturday. The Grizzlies ended the 2014 season with a 17-14 record.
Top-seed Defiance won the opening set 25-21 before taking a 25-17 triumph in the second set. The Yellow Jackets secured the victory with a 25-21 victory in the third set.
Franklin tied for third place in the HCAC with a 5-4 league record and defeated Mount St. Joseph University in the tournament's opening round on Wednesday.
Franklin's 17 wins are the most since the 2005 season. The team qualified for postseason play the first time since 2006.
Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) led the team's hitting attack against Defiance with 10 kills. Junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) added nine kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 27 assists and 15 digs defensively. Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) led the effort with 21 digs.
