Box Score Hanover, Ind. - Hanover College's Rececca Tumlin scored in double overtime to score a 3-2 victory over the Franklin College women's soccer team in Saturday's thrilling championship match of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament.
The Grizzlies finished the season with a 12-3-4 record and advanced to postseason play for the first time in program history. The 12 victories are a school record.
Freshman Masey Bunn (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute on her 10th goal of the season. Freshman Jasmine Hunt (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) hit the crossbar on an initial shot to set up the scoring chance.
In the second half, Hanover's Anna Cornacchione squared the match with a goal 10 minutes into the period.
Franklin took a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute when senior Danielle Owens (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) was on the receiving end of a free kick from senior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg).
The Grizzlies continued to lead until Tumlin successfully converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to tie the match at 2-2.
Then, Tumlin found the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of the match.
Hanover (16-4) held a 21-10 edge in shots, including a 14-6 advantage on shots on goal.
Franklin finished in second place in the HCAC with a 7-0-2 league record and earned the program's first regional ranking by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
