Box Score Cincinnati, Ohio - Freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) had a career-high 14 kills to help lead the Franklin College volleyball team to a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-12) over Mount St. Joseph University in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament.
Franklin (17-13) advances to the semifinal round against regular-season champion and No. 1 seed Defiance College on Saturday, November 8, at 2 p.m. in Defiance, Ohio.
Harvey had 14 kills compared to just two hitting errors in a balanced offensive attack which had a .185 team hitting percentage for the match.
The Grizzlies, the tournament's No. 5 seed, squared the match by winning the second set after opening on an 11-2 run. The positive momentum continued in the third set with a 6-2 run producing a hard-fought 25-23 triumph. Then, the team secured the victory by tallying 11 kills in the fourth set.
Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) had eight kills, while juniors Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) and Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) joined freshman Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) in each chipping in seven kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped distribute the offense with 37 assists.
Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) led the team's defensive effort with 25 digs. Classmate Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) added 16 digs, while Bazier chipped in 14 digs. Junior Hope Steel (New Palestine, Ind./Lutheran) rounded out the double-figure digs with 14 digs.
