Men's Soccer Season End with Loss at Rose-Hulman in HCAC Semifinals

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-0 match to No. 2-seeded Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Wednesday's semifinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament.

The Grizzlies ended the 2014 season with an 8-7-3 record and a third-place conference finish.

Rose-Hulman scored a goal in the final moments of each half. Ben Lyon put the hosts ahead with a goal in the 44th minute. Then, Austin Webb found the back of the net in the final minute as Franklin was giving an all-out offensive effort to gain the game-tying goal.

The Engineers held a 16-10 advantage and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks for the match. Franklin attempted four shots on goal, compared to Rose-Hulman's five shots.

Junior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) attempted a match-high six shots.

Franklin compiled a 5-2-2 HCAC record and the team's eight wins is a four-win improvement from the 2013 season.
