Box Score 2 Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team earned a five-set triumph over Trine University (27-25, 25-21, 13-25, 15-25, 15-12) in its regular-season finale on Saturday from the Spurlock Center. The Grizzlies will be the No. 5 seed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
Franklin lost a four-set match to Anderson University (19-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-17) earlier in the day. The Grizzlies finished the regular season with a 16-13 record and won its most conference matches since 2003 with a 5-4 mark.
The team travels to Mount St. Joseph University for an opening round contest in the HCAC tournament on Wednesday, November 5 at either 7 or 7:30 p.m.
Freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) posted a team-high 11 kills in the victory. Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) each chipped in nine kills. Freshman Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) rounded out the balanced hitting attack with seven kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 38 assists and posted 21 digs defensively.
Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) tallied 23 digs to lead the effort. Junior Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) added 15 digs. Freshman Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis), Lelivelt, and Young each had 10 digs.
Against Anderson, Lelivelt recorded a career-high 15 kills. Junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) chipped in 10 kills. Young recorded eight kills, hwile Finke tallied seven kills in the match.
Bazier recorded 38 kills and Wieneke led the Grizzlies with 22 digs.
