Box Score Franklin, Ind. - Two second-half goals lifted the Franklin College men's soccer team to a 2-0 home victory over Earlham College on Saturday afternoon at Faught Stadium. The victory secured the Grizzlies a postseason berth for the second time in the last three seasons.
Franklin finished third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 5-2-2 mark. The Grizzlies concluded the regular season with an 8-6-3 record.
The team will play a semifinal match at No. 2 seed Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. from Terre Haute, Indiana.
Junior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) put the Grizzlies on top with his eighth goal of the season four minutes into the second half. Freshman Trevor Sarsfield (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) helped set up the goal.
Later, Sarsfield found the back of the net to give Franklin a 2-0 advantage in the 67th minute.
Franklin was efficient in its scoring chances, converting two goals on its three shots on goal. Overall, the team attempted five shots and held Earlham to just three shots for the 90 minutes of play.
Junior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington) recorded his eighth shutout of the season by making three saves during the first half.
