Box Score Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team scored once in each half to pick up a key 2-0 road triumph over Manchester University on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action.
The victory moves the Grizzlies into the top four positions in the HCAC heading into Saturday's regular-season finale. The top four teams qualify for the league's postseason tournament.
Junior Ian Mullen (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) scored his first two goals of the season to lead the offensive attack. Freshman Alex Bird (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) set up Mullen's first goal in the 34th minute.
In the second half, Mullen found the back of the net in the 66th minute from a pass by junior Thaddeus Broderick (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central).
Franklin (7-6-3, 4-2-2 HCAC) held an 18-13 shot advantage, including seven shots on goal. Junior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) led the effort with five shots. Senior Brandon Iaria (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport), Broderick, and Mullen each attempted three shots.
Junior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington) made four saves in recording his seventh shutout of the season.
