Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College football team scored 20 fourth-quarter points to remain undefeated in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 41-21 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday from Faught Stadium.

Franklin (6-2, 6-0 HCAC) broke a 21-21 tie behind three touchdowns over the final 15 minutes, with two of the decisive scores set up by interceptions from junior linebacker Lucas Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central).

Senior quarterback Grant Welp (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to senior wingback Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) to start the late flurry.

Windell's first interception set up a 10-yard touchdown run by senior running back Joey Pasquale (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) on a Statue of Liberty play. Welp faked a pass to the right side of the field before pulling the ball behind his back to hand off to Pasquale, who followed two blockers down the left sideline for the touchdown.

Then, Windell jumped in front of pass in the middle of the field for an interception that secured the victory. The Grizzlies once again turned the turnover into points as Welp capped a 10-play, 58-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run.

Franklin took a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter behind two touchdown passes from Welp. He first connected with Cole for an 11-yard strike on the game's first possession. Later, Welp threw a 15-yard touchdown reception to senior split end Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) with 42 seconds left in the period.

Rose-Hulman's Greg Lee punched in a one-yard touchdown rush with 2:15 left in the first half to trail the Grizzlies 14-7 at halftime. The Fightin' Engineers (5-2, 3-2 HCAC) got a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Swenson to wide receiver Alec Fisher to tie the game at 14-14 with 10:44 left in the third quarter.

Franklin regained the lead on a one-yard score from Welp at the 8:47 mark of the period. The visitors tied the game at 21-21 on a seven-yard pass from Swenson to running back Michael Iacono.

Then, Franklin dominated the fourth quarter.

Individually, Welp completed 32 of his 45 pass attempts for 345 yards and three touchdowns. He also added two rushing touchdowns and gained 49 yards on the ground.

Cole led the receivers with nine catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Junior wingback Kendal Butler (Oakland, Ill./Cumberland) added eight receptions for 84 yards. Pasquale caught six passes for 74 yards, while Hession had five catches.

Defensively, junior Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central), Lucas' twin brother, recorded a game-high 14 tackles. Senior Trevor Yates (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) made eight tackles.

Franklin will enjoy a week off on the schedule before returning to action on Saturday, November 8, at Defiance College.
