Men's Soccer Battles to Draw with Hanover

Box Score

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against rival Hanover College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action Wednesday evening from Faught Stadium. The Grizzlies stand in third place with a 3-1-2 league record.

Junior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored his eighth goal on the season when he successfully converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute.

Franklin (6-5-3) battled back from an early deficit when Hanover's Matt Grau scored off a Thomas Doering corner kick in the eighth minute.

The two teams searched for the game-winning tally in the two 10-minute overtime periods, but both goalkeepers denied the opportunity of a goal.

Franklin junior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington) made five saves in goal.

Hanover held a slight 12-10 shot advantage in the match. Fundenberger led Franklin's effort with a match-high six shots. Sophomore Antonio Gioe (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) attempted two shots.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, October 25 at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Anderson University.
