Box Score Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team suffered its first loss in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-23) to Defiance College on Friday evening from the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies (15-8, 5-1 HCAC) stand in second place in the league standings with three conference matches remaining.
Defiance (14-10, 5-0 HCAC) was led by Bree Anderson's 15 kills, while Meredith Shank added 10 kills.
Franklin junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) and freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) each led the team with eight kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) distributed 30 assists.
Defensively, junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) recorded 20 digs, while classmate Hope Steel (New Palestine, Ind./Lutheran) added 16 digs.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. when it hosts Hanover College on 'Dig Pink Night.' Donations will be accepted towards Susan G. Komen breast cancer research.
