Box Score Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team suffered its first loss in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 1-0 setback to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies (5-5-2, 2-1-1 HCAC) outshot the regionally ranked Fightin' Engineers during the second half. However, the hosts were unable to find the equalizer after Rose-Hulman's Austin Webb scored in the 16th minute.
Franklin's junior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington), the reigning HCAC Player of the Week, made six saves against the defending conference champions.
Rose-Hulman (8-3-3, 3-0-1 HCAC) held a 16-12 shot advantage, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The visitors also tallied six of their nine corner kicks during the first half.
Junior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) led Franklin's offensive effort with four shots. Senior Brandon Iaria (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) added three shots, while junior Thaddeus Broderick (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) chipped in two shots.
Franklin returns to action when it travels to Bluffton University on Saturday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m.
