Box Score

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over rival Hanover College in non-conference action on Faculty & Staff Night at the Spurlock Center on Tuesday. The victory evened the Grizzlies overall record to 5-5 on the season.

In the first set, the Grizzlies used a 14-5 run to take a 15-10 lead. The team led 24-22 before the Panthers won the next two points to square the opening frame. However, Franklin responded by winning the next two points for a 26-24 triumph in the set.

The second set once again featured back-and-forth action. Hanover (4-7) led 23-21 before the hosts won six of the final eight points to capture the set.

Later, the Panthers built four point leads 16-12 and 19-15 advantages, but once again the large crowd lifted the Grizzlies. A kill by sophomore Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) tied the third set at 19 points each. A service ace by junior Brooke Stamper (Brownsburg, Ind./Covenant Christian) gave Franklin a 20-19 lead. The momentum carried as the Grizzlies built a 22-20 lead following a Hanover service error.

However, Hanover closed the third set strong to earn a 28-26 triumph.

The Grizzlies rallied from a deficit in the fourth set, but closed out the match with effective serves from freshman Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) to defeat the Panthers 26-24.

Individually, sophomore Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the offensive effort with 11 kills. Brown added eight kills and junior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) rounded the attack with seven kills.
