Fast Start Propels Women's Basketball in Road Win over Alma

Alma, Mich. - The Franklin College women's basketball team shot a season-high 56 percent from the floor in recording an 89-59 road win over Alma College (Mich.) on Friday afternoon at Art Smith Arena. The 89 points were a season high.

The Grizzlies (4-6) have won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Franklin shot 50 percent in building a 41-27 halftime advantage. The visitors used a 7-0 run to take a 29-16 lead with 5:33 left in the first half. The lead grew to 18 points, 41-23, after a layup by junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) with 1:15 remaining in the period.

The team continued to its hot shooting in the second half, building a 29-point lead midway through the period. The team then coasted to a victory in its final non-conference contest.

Franklin shot a season-best 56.1 percent from the floor (37-of-66) and made 4 of its 11 three-point field attempts (36.4 percent) in the game.

Individually, freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) led a balanced attack with a career-high 17 points. The guard made seven of her 10 field goal attempts. She also recorded four steals.

Junior Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) had a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. She had eight points and nine rebounds in the first half.

Freshman Hanna Ballard (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) made both of her three-point field goal attempts in scoring a career-high 14 points. Classmate Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) also netted a career high with eight points off the bench.

Sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) added 10 points and had five rebounds, five blocks and two assists. Freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored nine points.

Alma (0-10) was led by Mallory Pruett's 20 points.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, January 4 at 1 p.m. when it resumes Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Earlham College from the Spurlock Center.
