Box Score Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College sophomore Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored 12 of his 26 points in overtime as the men's basketball team defeated No. 23-ranked Centre College 102-97 on Monday inside the Spurlock Center.
Washington hit a game-tying three-point field goal with six seconds remaining to force the extra period at 87-87.
Franklin (2-0) has won both games in overtime this season.
Centre (1-1) rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 60-60 at the 9:53 mark. A basket by Tyler Wesley capped a 24-5 run over eight minutes.
The visitors took a 77-74 lead following a three pointer by Ryan Murray with 3:23 remaining in regulation. The lead grew to 83-79 with 28 seconds left after a layup by Andrew Steggman.
Franklin's Terry Sargent (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) made a layup and converted a free throw on the play to bring Franklin within 83-82. Following a pair of free throws by Centre, Washington tied the game with his late-game heroics.
In overtime, Washington converted a three-point play to break a 94-94 tie with 1:10 left. After a Centre turnover, the sophomore drained another three-point field goal with 19 seconds left to secure the victory.
Senior Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) scored 17 of his game-high 34 points in the first half. He made five of his nine shots from behind the arc. The Grizzlies led the Colonels 47-34 at halftime.
Sargent added 16 points, while senior Troy Porter (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) and sophomore Dion Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) each added 12 points.
Franklin shot 52 percent from the floor and made 13 three-point field goals.
Centre was paced by Blake Scinta's 28 points.
