Box Score Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team earned its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory in a 2-0 home triumph over Manchester University on Wednesday evening at Faught Stadium. The Grizzlies scored both goals within a two-minute span in the second half.
Franklin (3-5-2, 1-1 HCAC) held a 21-7 shot advantage, including a 13-3 edge in the second half. Junior Brandon Iaria (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) broke the scoreless match in the 56th minute after a pass from sophomore Zachery Shoufler (Fortville, Ind./Greenfield-Central). The pass from the right side into the six-yard box found Iaria who drilled the shot to the right side of the goal.
Moments later, junior Jose Cordero (San Jose, Costa Rica/Colegio Metodista) beat a Manchester defender and finished a shot from 15 yards out for a 2-0 advantage in the 57th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Hill (Culver, Ind./Plymouth) made three saves in goal and recorded his second shutout of the season.
Sophomore Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) led the team with eight shots. Iaria attempted five shots, while senior William Hilgendorf (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) had two shots.
Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. when it travels to the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati.
