Benham Scores 13th Goal in Women's Soccer Overtime Loss to Bluffton

Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College senior Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) scored her Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading 13th goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Bluffton University on Saturday at Faught Stadium.

The match featured 89 scoreless minutes until both teams scored one goal in the final 19 seconds of regulation. Benham gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead off a pass from senior Natalie Scott (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community). However, Bluffton scored the tying goal off a free kick by Elizabeth Webb with three seconds left in the match.

Franklin (8-8, 2-5 HCAC) had two shots in the extra period, but Bluffton's Megan Moreo scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute on a shot to the right corner of the net.

Benham leads the HCAC in goals, assists and points. She had a game-high six shots. Junior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg), sophomore Marci Black (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Scott each had one shot.

Bluffton held an 11-9 edge in shots, while the hosts had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 29 at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Hanover College.
