Women's Soccer Loses at Defiance

Defiance, Ohio - The Franklin College women's soccer team lost a 3-0 road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match at Defiance College on Saturday afternoon. The loss was the Grizzlies first road HCAC loss and first road setback since August 31.

Franklin (8-6, 2-3 HCAC) fell behind early on a goal from Carly Smith in the ninth minute. Defiance (4-9-2, 1-3-1) maintained the one-goal lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jacks scored two goals in the second half to secure the victory. Smith delivered another goal in the 63rd minute and Maegan Redick capped the scoring at the 82nd minute.

Franklin senior Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) had three shots to lead the team's seven-shot attack. Sophomore Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) added two shots.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
