Dana Haggenjos was been named the ninth head coach in Franklin women's basketball history on May 2014. She was a former standout player and assistant coach for 10 seasons at perennial NCAA Division III national contender DePauw University.
2021-22 saw the Grizzlies make their third straight post-season appearance, finishing as the league's seventh seed with a 6-10 mark in conference play, with seniors Jessica Nix and Destinee Cross earning all-conference honors from the league following the end of the season.
The 2021 season saw Franklin play a shortened schedule, finishing with a 7-5 record and the third seed in that year's HCAC Tournament. Come post-season time, Franklin had four players collect all-conference honors in Destinee Cross, Britney Ballard, Jessica Nix and CiCi Bailey picking up awards.
The 2019-20 Grizzlies turned in a successful campaign, going 17-9 with a 12-6 record in the HCAC and a return to the conference tournament for the first time since 2017. Franklin boasted a deep lineup that flustered their opponents with their defense, with the Grizzlies allowing 61.2 points per game and teams shot just 35.8% from the field against the team. Additionally, Franklin ranked in the upper echelon of the HCAC in causing mistakes, forcing 21.3 turnovers per contest. Bayleigh Walker became a three-time all-conference selection, earning First Team All-HCAC honors while Destinee Cross (Honorable Mention) and Jenna Cowart (All-Freshman) joined her on the list of all-conference recipients.
In the opening game of the 2018-19 season, the Grizzlies set a program record for fewest points allowed in a game when they conceded just 16 in a win over Mount Mary. At the end of the year, Franklin would see three players earn all-conference honors with Walker and Mallory Cast picking up honorable mention selections and Jessica Nix earning a spot on the All-Freshman team.
In 2017-18, the Grizzlies saw freshman Walker establish herself as one of the league's top players. Walker would earn Second Team All-HCAC honors and a spot on the league's All-Freshman Team as Franklin finished 7-17 overall.
The 2016-17 season saw Franklin return to the HCAC Tournament after the Grizzlies went 14-12 with an 11-7 record in conference play. As the tournament's fifth-seed, Franklin went on the road and knocked off Hanover in overtime in the opening round, 65-64. Three Grizzlies earned All-HCAC honors after the season in Lauren DeSutter, Sarah Taylor and Mandy Fisher.
In 2015-16, Franklin posted a 19-8 record that included a 9-1 mark inside the Spurlock Center. The Grizzlies earned a victory against nationally ranked DePauw. Haggenjos led the team to a third-place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-4 league record. The team advanced to the HCAC tournament semifinals after picking up a home tournament victory against Defiace College.
During Haggenjos' first year the Grizzlies posted a winning record and tied for third place in the HCAC. She won her head coaching debut with a home triumph over Muskingum College on November 15, 2014. Haggenjos also led the Grizzlies to a victory over Ohio Northern University, a NCAA tournament participant the previous season.
The Mooresville, Ind. native helped DePauw to a 270-34 record as an assistant coach from 2004-06 and 2007-14, including the 2012-13 Division III national championship.
A four-year varsity letterwinner at DePauw from 1999-2003, Haggenjos ranks among the program’s leaders in career points, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounding and steals. She earned all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) honors as a senior and finished second in the SCAC Player of the Year voting. She also was named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.
Haggenjos moved to the sideline in 2004, serving as a graduate assistant for Head Coach Kris Huffman from 2004-06. She earned the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association (WBCA) Graduate Assistant of the Year Award during the 2005-06 campaign. After spending one season as an assistant coach at Florida’s Nova Southeastern University, Haggenjos returned to DePauw as an assistant coach and helped the Tigers to a 34-0 record and the program’s second national championship.
At DePauw, Haggenjos has mentored three All-Americans, and served on a coaching staff that posted 20-win seasons, captured eight conference championships and made 10 appearances to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Haggenjos earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from DePauw in 2003, and received a master’s degree in recreation and sports management from Indiana State University in 2006. She is a member of the WBCA.
