Stewart “Red” Faught
A native of Sullivan, Indiana, Stewart “Red”
Faught came to Franklin College after: a tour of duty with the U.S.
Army; earning B.A. and M.A. degrees at Indiana State University
(where he was a star quarterback); and nine years as a high school
teacher/coach.
The acknowledged master of the passing game, Coach Faught has
been admired and applauded by coaches’ at all levels-high
school, college and professional. His wide-open offensive scheme
has been utilized by many major colleges.
“Red’s” quarterbacks have consistently been
at, or near, the top of the national’s statistical leaders in
passing yardage and total offense. Positive national attention has
been drawn to Franklin College through the accomplishments of
Faught-coached athletes and teams.
His thirty-two years as Head Football Coach were highlighted
by 40-12 Mineral Water Bowl victory in 1970; a N.A.I.A
Semi-finalist berth in 1972; and by several conference
championships and runners-up finishes. His personal accolades
