NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Franklin women's tennis team hit the courts for three matchups in the span of 24 hours, facing off with Anderson on Friday (Apr. 11) before taking on Manchester and Grace Christian on Saturday (Apr. 12) afternoon.
The Grizzlies (7-10, 2-2 HCAC) suffered a 6-1 setback to Anderson in the opening match but rebounded to take both contests on Saturday, sweeping Manchester 7-0 and beating Grace Christian 6-1.
Match One: Anderson 6 - Franklin 1
Franklin claimed their lone point in singles play, with freshman
Mattie Foster claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 5 positions in the lineup. But the Ravens claimed the five other singles matches in straight sets and all three doubles showdowns to take the conference matchup.
Match Two: Franklin 7 - Manchester 0
The Grizzlies claimed both contested doubles matchups to earn the tandem point.
Ailyn Hendricks and
Emma Sappenfield teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles with
Brenna Atchison and
Sofie Ballesteros taking a 6-0 win at the two position.
Hendricks was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles with Ballesteros claiming a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles. Sappenfield won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot while Foster and
Alyssa Harmon recorded identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at the four and five spots in the lineup. Atchison won an uncontested point to round out the singles lineup.
Match Three: Franklin 6 - Grace Christian 1
Franklin earned a sweep of the doubles matchups to take the first point of the day. Hendricks and Sappenfield were 6-0 winners in the one position, followed by a 6-2 win from Atchison and Ballesteros at No. 2. Foster and Harmon teamed up for a 6-3 win in the final doubles position to wrap up tandem play.
Ballesteros claimed victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 triumph and Sappenfield picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win in the second position. Atchison won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Foster was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 4 singles and
Michiah Draper rounded out the lineup with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
