FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team welcomed conference opponents Bluffton and Manchester to Franklin Middle School for a Saturday (Nov. 4) afternoon tri-meet and the team's first home contest of the season.
The Griz coasted to wins in both dual matchups, beating Manchester 238-40 and besting Bluffton 239-13, winning every single event throughout the day.
The day started with a win in the 400 medley relay with
Caileigh McCafferty,
Avery Tomlinson,
Samantha Phillips and
Petal Sloan combining for a time of 4:09.06. The afternoon ended with
Landi Newcomb,
Grace Williams,
Mia Saunders and
Regan Hendricks teaming up to take the 200 free relay in 1:46.48
McCafferty claimed three individual wins in addition to her role in a relay victory. The Wonder Lake, Ill.-native took to spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.24), 100 free (54.67) and 200 backstroke (2:21.15).
Newcomb was a winner in both the 50 free (25.21) and 100 butterfly (1:01.47) and Phillips joined her as a multiple event winner by taking first in the 200 butterfly (2:12.35) and 500 free (5:20.55). Other event winners included:
Erin Perkins in the 1000 free (11:32.44),
Kat Lundy in the 200 free (2:02.26), Sloan in the 100 backstroke (1:04.38), Hendricks in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.86) and
Kennedy Minter in the 200 IM (2:24.97).
On the diving boards, senior
Carley Bond won both sessions with a five-dive score of 179.15 and a six-dive score of 263.60 to close out the day.
