RECAP | Women's Swimming Claims Two Dual Wins Over the Weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team claimed a successful weekend with a pair of dual wins over Centre and Transylvania.
 
The Grizzlies opened up their weekend against the Colonels on Friday (Nov. 10) night, taking a 169-130 decision over their hosts. Less than 24 hours later, Franklin dominated conference rival Transylvania to the tune of a 221-78 victory, moving FC to 4-0 in head-to-head competition on the year.
 
Franklin vs. Centre
Franklin took 11 of 16 events against a ranked Colonels squad, with three swimmers claiming multiple events throughout the night. Senior Samantha Phillips was dominant in her three events, winning the 200 free (1:58.32), the 200 fly (2:13.39) and the 500 free (5:18.62).
 
A pair of freshmen also walked away with two wins each, with Kat Lundy winning the 100 backstroke (58.90) and the 200 backstroke (2:09.10). Celeste Hollis joined her with victories in the 100 free (54.12) and 100 fly (58.61) and she added a runner-up finish in the 50 free (24.96)
 
Senior Caileigh McCafferty won the 200 IM in 2:13.39 and the 200 free relay of McCafferty, Hollis, Landi Newcomb and Petal Sloan took the top spot in 1:41.12. Kamryn Elder won the 1-meter, five-dive session with 153.16 points and Carley Bond claimed the six-dive session on the 1-meter board with 224.40 points.
 
Franklin vs. Transylvania
The Grizzlies racked up wins in 14 of 16 events against the Pioneers, claiming their third dual win over a conference opponent in the last 7 days. Phillips was dominant yet again on her way to three more event wins, claiming the 1000 free (11:04.07), 200 free (2:00.28) and 100 fly (1:01.34). McCafferty also laid claim to a trio of wins, grabbing first in the 200 fly (2:16.65), 100 free (55.16) and 200 breaststroke (2:37.05).
 
Lundy was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.09 and Sloan claimed the 500 free in 5:24.69. Hollis won the 50 free in 25.65, sophomore Jyllian Antle took first in the 200 backstroke in 1:03.53 and Regan Hendricks was the victor in the 400 IM in 5:01.19.
 
Both of Franklin's relays were winners as well, with McCafferty, Newcomb, Mia Saunders and Avery Tomlinson combining to win the 200 medley relay in 1:58.00. Hollis, Newcomb, Phillips and Sloan closed the night by winning the 200 free relay in 1:42.47. On the diving boards, Bond was the winner on the three-meter board with 257.60 points and she claimed a runner-up finish on the one-meter board with 225.60 points.
