FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team put the finishing touches on the regular season on Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Grizzlies collected a 161-131 win over the Titans in front of their home fans, giving Franklin a 9-2 record heading into the conference championships in two weeks. It was the final home meet for Franklin's three seniors, with
Caileigh McCafferty,
Faith Jackson and Becky Pfeifer being honored for their four years with the program before the start of the meet.
McCafferty and
Samantha Phillips were both dominant in winning three events each. McCafferty won the 50 free (25.21), 100 free (54.84) and 200 IM (2:14.27) in her final career home meet. Phillips also left little doubt in her three races, taking the 200 free (1:58.61), 500 free (5:16.17) and 200 butterfly (2:14.11).
Junior
Kennedy Minter claimed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.79 and runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:06.49). Franklin got pivotal points in runner-up showings from
Regan Hendricks in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.56) and
Erin Perkins in the 1000 free (11:14.32). The 200 free relay of Minter, Hendricks, Phillips and McCafferty closed out the day with a winning time of 1:43.61.
Over on the diving board, Jackson claimed first place in both one-meter sessions after racking up 209.77 points in the first session and 329.09 in the second. Junior
Carley Bond and freshman
Kaleigh Schuler picked up big points, taking second and third in both sessions.
The Grizzlies are off for two weeks to prepare for the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships. Competition gets underway on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the West Vigo Aquatics Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
