FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's swimming & diving team had a busy weekend with three dual matches in less than 24 hours, hosting Transylvania on Friday (Nov. 11) night before taking on both Centre and Bluffton on Saturday (Nov. 12).
The Grizzlies extended their dual win streak to 51 on night one, besting Transylvania 153-71. The Grizzlies would beat Bluffton 225-8 on Saturday but they saw their dual winning streak, which spanned a little more than five seasons, come to an end with a 171-125 loss to Centre.
Franklin vs. Transylvania
The Grizzlies took the top spot in 10 of the night's 13 events against the Pioneers with three Grizzlies claiming two individual event wins.
Samantha Phillips continued her strong season with wins in two freestyle events, besting the field in both the 200 free (2:01.69) and the 500 free (5:22.37).
Caileigh McCafferty was victorious in both the 50 free (25.27) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.12). Senior
Faith Jackson won both diving sessions on the 1-meter board, finishing with 251.90 points over 11 dives.
Also picking up wins were Jyllian Antle in the 400 IM (4:54.40),
Kennedy Minter in the 100 butterfly (1:02.63) and
Regan Hendricks in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.18). Minter, Phillips, McCafferty and Erin Perkins teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.14.
Franklin vs. Bluffton & Centre
Phillips was dominant in all three of her individual events, picking up three more wins on a day where Franklin claimed five victories and a handful of runner-up showings. Phillips took first in the 200 free (2:00.47), 200 butterfly (2:15.71) and 500 free (5:21.45). McCafferty picked up a victory in the 200 IM, besting the field with a time of 2:16.36.
Both Jackson and
Carley Bond officially qualified for the NCAA Diving Regional. Jackson took first place on the 1-meter board with 272.95 over 11 dives and added a runner-up finish on the 3-meter board with 219.85. Bond was victorious on the 3-meter board with 233.00 points and she picked up a runner-up finish on the 1-meter board with 230.35 points.
The Grizzlies are back in action next on Nov. 18-20, traveling to Crawfordsville, Ind. to take part in the Gail Pebworth Invitational, hosted by Wabash College.
