NEWS | Franklin Sweeps Weekly HCAC Swimming & Diving Awards

CARMEL, Ind. – Following their first competition of the season, the Franklin College swimming & diving teams swept the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday (Oct. 18) afternoon.
 
Junior Jack Burke and senior Gauge Creech were the winners on the men's side while seniors Caileigh McCafferty and Faith Jackson earned the honor for the women.
 
Burke earns his first career HCAC Male Swimmer of the Week award after pacing Franklin at the Indiana DIII Invitational on Saturday. The Fort Wayne, Ind.-native won the 100 backstroke (54.25) and 200 backstroke (1:57.95) and added a runner-up finish in the 100 IM (55.14). He was also part of Franklin's winning 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:36.73.
 
No stranger to the league's Male Diver of the Week, Creech won both diving events on Saturday to win the award for the 14th time in his career. The Franklin-native dominated on both boards, putting up 299.45 points on the three-meter board and 282.40 on the one-meter board to win handily.
 
Jackson also added to her collection of Female Diver of the Week honors, picking up the award for the 12th time in her career. She was also victorious on both diving boards on Saturday, claiming the top spot in the three-meter board with 253.20 points and edging out teammate Carley Bond on the one-meter board with 221.55 points.
 
Rounding out the list of award winners is McCafferty, who becomes a six-time HCAC Female Swimmer of the Week after winning three events and taking part in a runner-up relay. The Wonder Lake, Ill.-native placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.70), 200 backstroke (2:14.56) and 200 IM (2:18.39) while also taking part in the 200 medley relay that finished with a time of 1:56.44.
 
The Grizzlies are back in the pool on Saturday (Oct. 22) when they head to West Lafayette, Ind. to take part in the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet. Start time is set for noon.
