LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – Following a two-week hiatus from competition, the Franklin College cross country teams were back on the track on Saturday, heading south for the Greater Louisville Classic.
With more than 30 teams and 200 runners in both races, the Grizzlies faced off against their largest and strongest fields of the year. The Franklin men finished in 21st place while the FC women claimed a 24th place finish.
There was no change at the top of the leaderboard for the Franklin men, as sophomore Clayton Brumfield paced the squad once again. Brumfield finished the 8K race in 27:16.12, bringing home a 31st place finish and finishing two seconds shy of setting a new personal record.
Blaine Conners wasn't far behind, earning a 68th place finish a personal-best 8K time of 27:40.07. Also turning in a season-best time was freshman Chris Graham, whose time of 28:38.78 bested his previous low time in the 8K by nearly two minutes. Graham finished 128th overall.
Freshman Logan Vandermark (165th/29:17.48), Junior JT Sargent (204th/29:48.52), junior Heath Deugan (218th/30:08.97), sophomore Adam Rector (234th/30:29.76), sophomore Sean Groves (279th/32:43.31) and sophomore Alex Creamer (290th/33:22.27) rounded out the times for the Franklin men.
Leading the way for the Franklin women was freshman Krista Robinson, who topped the FC leaderboard for the second time this fall after finishing the 5K race in 20:05.19 and earning a 30th place finish. Senior Rachel Bowden placed second on the team and 130th overall with a time of 21:32, coming up two-seconds shy of her personal best time in a 5K race.
Freshman Grace Esterline wasn't far behind, grabbing 142nd place with a time of 21:43.03. Junior Meghan Yencer (173rd/22:07.07), sophomore Jayla Callens (213th/23:19.28), freshman Madeleine Correll (220th/23:33.17) and senior Casey Tranter (221st/23:33.97) rounded out the times for the Franklin women.
Both teams will have two weeks off before their next meet, which takes place on Friday, Oct. 13 in Wilmington, Ohio at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
