FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team recognized a quartet of team award winners when they held their post-season team banquet recently.
The Impact Player award was bestowed upon sophomore libero Allison Thompson, who served as the anchor of the Franklin defense as libero in all 30 games. The Louisville, Ky.-native led the team with 559 digs and 4.99 digs per set while adding 31 service aces and 73 assists on the year. During the season, she was named the HCAC's Defensive Player of the Week, collecting the honor for the first time in her career.
Junior Abby Sewell was awarded the Dr. Sarah Mordan McCombs Academic Excellence Award. The Franklin-native was named First Team All-HCAC for the second year in a row in 2019 after appearing in all 30 matches, putting away 265 kills and leading the team with 33 aces and 74 blocks on the year.
Freshman Savanna VanHoy was chosen as the team's Most Improved Player. The setter from Bedford, Ind. appeared in 13 contests, handing out 101 assists while adding a pair of aces and 37 digs. Her career-best afternoon came in a five-set win over Manchester on Sept. 27, when she had 22 assists in a five-set Franklin win.
The final award handed out was the Teammate Award, which went to freshman Alivia Brown. The Franklin-native appeared in seven sets across six matches on the year.
