OLIVET, Mich. – The Franklin volleyball team wrapped up a long road trip on Saturday (Sept. 21), heading north for matches against Albion College and Olivet College.

In the opening contest, the Grizzlies (9-6) came out swinging to take the first set before Albion came back to win the next three and earn a 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13. In the afternoon session, the Grizzlies captured two of the first three sets against the Comets, but the home team would re-group and take the final two sets 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 16-14.

Albion 3 – Franklin 1
The opening set saw the Grizzlies put down 16 kills and hit .364 as a team. With the score tied at 16, the Grizzlies rattled off a 7-2 run to take control of the opening set. Franklin was not only efficient on the attack during the game-deciding run, but forced a trio of attacking errors by the Britons that helped pave the way to a win.

The Grizzlies continued to swing it well over the next two games, but Albion's attack over the next two contests was a major factor in the comeback. Franklin hit .145 and .186, respectively, but were bested by a Britons attack that finished with 15 and 19 kills, respectively, over the next two sets. The final set saw Albion close out the win with a game-ending 7-2 run.

Senior Kyra Harvey racked up a team-high 15 kills against the Britons while Abby Sewell had nine kills and a team-best .296 attacking percentage in the opener. Billie Jarrett had 42 assists and Allison Thompson matched a career-high with 32 digs.

Olivet 3 – Franklin 2
The Grizzlies claimed an early lead in the first set but the Comets would battle back to tied the game and ensure a back-and-forth battle the rest of the set. With the game tied at 18, the Comets rattled off five straight points to take a lead they would hold the rest of the set.

Game two was another tightly-contested battle that saw neither team lead by more than two early on. Franklin would gain some separation with a 4-0 run that gave them a lead they wouldn't give up. Down 16-10 in the third set, the Grizzlies clawed back and took the lead with a 5-0 run that made it a 23-21 contest. The Comets snapped the run to get within a point, but back-to-back Grizzly kills closed out the game.

Olivet jumped out to 9-4 lead early in the fourth game and never trailed after that, setting up a fifth and deciding set. In another seesaw affair, the Comets closed out the match with two straight points after Franklin forced game point with two straight points that tied things up at 14.

Stats leaders will be posted once final stats are available.

The Grizzlies return home on Tuesday (Sept. 24) night for the start of a four-match homestand. Franklin will meet Spalding inside the Spurlock Center, with first serve set for 7:00 p.m .
