FRANKLIN, Ind. – Play opened at the 2019 Franklin College Volleyball Invitational on Friday (Sept. 6) night inside the Spurlock Center with two matches on tap for the host Grizzlies.

The opening contest was a back-and-forth contest between Franklin (3-3) and Baldwin Wallace (6-0) with the Yellow Jackets pulling away late in all three sets to win 29-27, 25-23, 25-20. In their final match of the night, the Grizzlies' offensive attack was stifled by the Oglethorpe (4-0) defense with the Stormy Petrels winning 25-18, 25-14, 25-17.

Baldwin Wallace 3 – Franklin 0
Franklin stormed out to an early lead in the opening set of the day and held a 20-13 lead late in the set. But the Yellow Jackets would mount a rally, battling all the way back to tie the opening set at 24 with an 11-4 run. The Grizzlies held match point on two occasions, but the Yellow Jackets dug in to hold off defeat and earn the win.

Set two was a battle from start to finish and was knotted up at 22 after Franklin rallied to tie with a 5-1 run late. But once again, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on the attack to take three of the final four points and earn the win. That momentum carried over to the third set, where the Yellow Jacket defense stifled the Grizzlies to close out the match.

Senior Kyra Harvey had 15 kills and four aces in the opening match, leading the team in both categories. Billie Jarrett had 21 assists and a team-high six digs.

Oglethorpe 3 – Franklin 0
Set one featured a 9-1 run midway through by the Stormy Petrels that turned a one-point contest into a larger gap. The visitors hit .267 while limiting Franklin to .138 on the attack to take the first set. The next two sets featured similar blueprints, with Oglethorpe racking up double digit kills while holding Franklin under 10 kills in each of the final two games.

Harvey once again led the team on the attack, putting down nine kills and adding one service ave. Kyndall Boyll had five kills and Timber Falin turned back two attempts on her own. Jarrett had 15 assists while Allison Thompson recorded a team-high 12 digs.

The Grizzlies look to rebound on Saturday (Sept. 7) with two more games to close out the weekend. Franklin meets Greenville at 10:00 a.m. before closing out the weekend against Marietta at 2:00 p.m.
