SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Franklin College volleyball team closed out their California trip in impressive fashion, sweeping Bard College in their final match of the 2019 UC Santa Cruz Slugfest.

The Grizzlies (2-1) hit .240 as a team with Kyndall Boyll and Timber Falin leading the team with nine kills each. Franklin rolled in all three sets, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-14.

Leading by four midway through the opening game, the Grizzlies rattled off seven straight points to not only take a double-digit lead, but force the opening game point. Falin nailed down the opening set, putting away a Billie Jarrett feed to put the Griz up by a game.

Game two was all Franklin from the jump, with the Grizzlies jumping out to a 6-1 lead on their way to a big set two win. As a team, Franklin finished the set with 15 kills against just two errors for a .433 team hitting percentage.

Another fast start fueled the final set, with Franklin taking 13 of the first 17 points to open up a wide margin. The lead would grow to as many as 11 with the Grizzlies' defense playing a major role in the final set win. Franklin held the Raptors to a sub-.100 hitting percentage in all three games.

Jenna Spini capped a strong weekend with a seven-kill performance in the finale. Kyra Harvey had five kills and finished the weekend with hitting percentages above .250 in all three contests.

Jarrett handed out 27 assists to lead all Franklin setters. Abby Sewell and Allison Thompson tied for the team lead with 11 digs each with the latter leading all players with four aces.

Franklin makes their home debut on Wednesday (Sept. 4) night, when they welcome Oakland City University to the Spurlock Center. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
