FRANKLIN – Randi Garrett has been named assistant coach of the Franklin College volleyball team and will join head coach Mary Johnston's staff immediately as the season draws closer.
A native of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Garrett comes joins the Griz after pulling double duty as an athletic trainer and assistant volleyball coach at Merritt Island High School in Merritt Island, Florida.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Garrett embarked on a four-year playing career at Division II Dominican University in New York. During each of her four years with the Chargers, Garrett eclipsed the 100-kill mark, setting a career high with 181 put aways as a freshman. She was also a member of one conference championship team, helping the Chargers take home the award in 2011.
"I'm really excited to be a part of the Grizzly family," Garrett said. "Everyone has been so welcoming, and has made the transition really easy. Coach Johnston and I have really high expectations this year and we are eager to see what the team can accomplish this season."
The Franklin volleyball team opens the year on Friday, Sept. 1, taking on Wellesley at the Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Mass.
