Volleyball Hosting Spalding in 2016 Season Opener

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team opens the 2016 campaign inside the Spurlock Center when it hosts Spalding University on Thursday, September 1 at 7 p.m.

The Grizzlies are coming off a 17-win campaign last fall. The team has reached the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament each of the last two seasons.

Franklin was picked to finish in fourth place in the league's preseason poll.

Junior Amanda Lelivelt earned first-team All-HCAC accolades in 2015 after leading the Grizzlies' offensive attack with 337 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. She ranked second on the team with 96 blocks.

Senior Ashley Bazier helped distribute the hitters by tallying 1,184 assists and averaging 9.2 assists per set last fall. Franklin had four players record 245 or more kills in 2015. Bazier ranked second on the team with 460 digs defensively.

Junior Brooke Harvey posted 254 kills and 28 blocks last season. Classmate Sarah Labra recorded 199 digs.
