Volleyball Ready to Open Season at HCAC-MIAA Challenge

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team is ready to start the 2014 season at this weekend's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Challenge at Manchester University.

The Grizzlies are set to take on Olivet College on Saturday, August 30 at 5 p.m. Then, the team will play Adrian College starting at 7 p.m. Franklin concludes the weekend's action on Sunday, August 31 against Trine University at 11 a.m. and Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.

Franklin won 15 matches last season – the most in a season since the 2005 campaign.

Ranked among the nation's leading defensive players, junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) achieved a school record 639 digs last season. Her 5.81 digs per set ranked 13th nationally.

Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) led the team last season with a .391 hitting percentage. She also had 608 assists on the season, averaging eight assists per set.

Senior Jordon Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran), and juniors Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central), and Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) are the team's top returning hitters. All three players had 221 or more kills last fall.
