FRANKLIN, Ind. – A day after wet conditions forced their match to be postponed, the Franklin women's tennis team resumed play against Transylvania University on Monday afternoon.
In their final match of the regular season, the Grizzlies (7-2, 6-2 HCAC) fell to the Pioneers (5-5, 5-2 HCAC) by a 6-3 count. Franklin's lone win in doubles play came at the No. 2 spot, where Holyn Eldridge and Maddie Bright combined to an 8-3 win over their Transylvania counterparts. It was the first time this year the two worked as a pair in a dual match.
Senior Karen Dringenburg collected a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win over her counterpart at the No. 1 singles position. Bright picked up her second point of the afternoon at in a meeting of the two No. 4 singles players, emerging with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph. But the rest of the singles matches belonged to the Pioneers, with Transy taking three of the four singles points in straight sets.
Franklin sits tied with Anderson and Transylvania with two losses each in conference play. The Pioneers have one conference match remaining, after which the final seedings in the conference tournament will be set.
The Grizzlies have one more regular season match scheduled and will face off with IU-East on Tuesday (Oct. 16) afternoon in Franklin. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
