FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College women's tennis team turned in an impressive performance on Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon with a 7-2 win over Earlham College on Senior Day at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex. The Grizzlies (7-1, 6-1 HCAC) picked up their second straight win overall and moved one step closer to securing the second seed in the HCAC Tournament.
Franklin began their path towards victory by sweeping all three doubles matches. The second pairing of seniors Holyn Eldgridge and Alexa Schofner picked up Franklin's first point of the day with an 8-1 win over their counterparts. Grace Otte and Brianna Hutton made it 2-0 with an 8-3 win over their opponents at the No. 3 doubles position, just ahead of Maddie Bright and Karen Dringenburg who staked the Grizzlies to a three-point lead with an 8-5 win in a meeting of the top doubles teams.
Eldridge and Schofner secured the win for Franklin after picking up identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at the numbers two and three singles spots. Bright added a 6-1, 6-0 win over her No. 4 singles opponent while Tapanga Gauck closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 6 position.
The Grizzlies can wrap up the second seed in the HCAC Tournament on Sunday afternoon, when they host Transylvania University in their final HCAC dual match of the regular season. First serve is set for noon.
