WARSAW, Ind. – Playing in their first match of the spring, the Franklin College women's tennis team started their 2018 off on the right foot with a 5-4 win over Alma College on Saturday afternoon at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
The short-handed Grizzlies (13-3) won five of the seven matches on Saturday afternoon, earning their first point of the day with a 9-8 (7-4) win from Holyn Eldridge and Megan Battles from the top doubles spot.
Down by a point heading into singles play, Eldridge drew the Grizzlies even with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Battles followed it up with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles play and Lilly Bushong put Franklin up with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the three-spot. Emily Seger closed out the win in dramatic fashion, taking a 1-6, 6-3, 10-3 decision at the No. 5 position for her first career singles win.
The Grizzlies will have two weeks off before hitting the road to take on Principia College on Saturday, Mar. 10. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
