ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Playing their second a third straight road matches of the fall on Sunday, the Franklin College women's tennis team stayed perfect in 2017, picking up dual match wins over Webster and Lindenwood University-Belleville.
The Grizzlies moved to 4-0 in dual matches, opening the day with an 8-1 win over Webster before closing things out in the afternoon with a 7-2 win over the Lynx.
In the morning session against Webster, the Grizzlies got off to a fast start in doubles play, taking all three points. Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose remained unbeaten as the No. 1 doubles tandem with an 8-3 win. Megan Battles and Lilly Bushong came away with an 8-5 win as the No. 2 tandem while Claire Hirsch and Jessica Bakers were 8-1 winners as the No. 3 team.
The Grizzlies dominated in singles play, taking each match at the No. 2-6 spots in straight sets. Holly Eldridge, Rose, Alexa Schofner, Battles and Brianna Hutton all picked up singles wins over the Gorlocks.
Franklin kept things rolling against Lindenwood-Belleville, sweeping all three doubles matches. Dringenburg and Rose were 8-1 winners as the top doubles team while Eldridge and Schofner picked up a win by the same score as the No. 2 team. Hirsch and Baker picked up an 8-6 win as No. 3 doubles.
Dringenburg grabbed her lone singles win of the day with a hard-fought 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win from the top singles spot. Battles, Bushong and Baker all earned singles wins in straight sets to close out the match.
The Grizzlies will carry their perfect record into their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match of 2017 next weekend. Franklin will head to Defiance on Sept. 16, with the first serve set for 10:00 a.m.
