INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team swept this week's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) athlete of the week awards, with sophomores Brynna Sentel and Lexi Blackburn claiming this week's honors.
Sentel picked up her first HCAC Swimmer of the Week award of the year and second weekly honor of the year after a record-shattering performance at the Transylvania Invitational. The Sullivan, Ill.-native broke the HCAC open record in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.68, becoming the first swimmer in conference history to break the five-minute mark in the event. Additionally, Sentel hit an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the event, the first time in her career she has reached a national qualifying time.
Sentel added a win in the 100 backstroke with a clip of 58.46 and contributed to the Grizzlies' winning 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 200 medley relay teams. Franklin finished second out of nine teams at the event.
Blackburn repeated as the league's diver of the week for the sixth straight week after two big performances on the boards in Kentucky. The Clayton, Ind.-native blew past the field on the one-meter board, racking up 468.20 points to win the event by nearly 40 points. Later in the weekend, Blackburn claimed a runner-up finish on the three-meter board with 389.40 points,
The Grizzlies are off for the rest of 2018 before getting back in the pool on Jan. 11-12 in Danville, Ky. for the Colonel Classic, hosted by Centre College.
