GREENWOOD, Ind. – Following strong showings at last weekend's Transylvania Invitational, Franklin College freshmen Brynna Sentel and Lexi Blackburn have been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
A freshman from Sullivan, Ill., Sentel took the top spot in both the 500 free (5:05.66) and the 100 backstroke (58.38), setting new program records in each event and anew HCAC open record in the 500 free. She would also earn a runner-up finish in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:57.54.
Sentel was also part of four Franklin relay teams down in Lexington, three of which took first place honors. She also helped the team's 800 free (7:52.37) and 200 medley (1:47.39) relay teams set new program and conference records in the process. It is the first HCAC Swimmer of the Week honor for the Franklin rookie.
Blackburn had a big weekend on the 1-meter (416.65) and 3-meter (405.95) boards, taking first place in both events and setting new program records for six and 11 dives on both. Additionally, the Clayton, Ind.-native qualified for the NCAA diving regionals in both events. Like Sentel, it is the first weekly conference award for Blackburn.
The Franklin swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Jan. 12-13, traveling to Danville, Ky. for the Colonel Classic, hosted by Centre College.
